Wine and Crepes: Sweet and Savory

Saturday February 26, 2010 - Anna's Place I struggle with trying to find a good food and wine match. So I decided this time around to consult the Food and Drink online for some ideas. The website has a fantastic search engine: http://www.lcbo.com/lcbo-ear/RecipeController?action=search&language=1&recipeType=1 All the recipes and pairings are from the LCBO's magazine. All the wines chosen for this night are from the LCBO and are always carried. Olé!

Wine Club Saturday February 5, 2011 @ Julie’s place Theme: Mexican Attendance: Tayisa, Carm, Shereen, Anna, Jacquie, Reem, Andrea Started the girls with SANGRIA (which even I liked, and don’t usually like sangria!) served with avocado and corn salsa and chips. Did a toast with some TEQUILA and started dinner… we had Veggie Bean Tacos and Fajitas with homemade guacamole and salsa dip. Paired with: “La Cetto” Petite Syrah” from Mexico, 2008 found in Vintages, $11.95 This was a surprisingly good wine. Some comments – “a bit acidic; prefer it on its own rather than with food; better with the fajitas than the spicy bean tacos; I might buy this again…” “Vin D’Alsace” Pinot Gris Zahlberg, France, 2008 also found in Vintages $22 Some comments – “really good with spicy bean tacos, not as good with fajitas; very sweet; tastes like Riesling” I actually wouldn’t buy this again, considering you could probably get a nice Riesling for less $! The SANGRIA was my favourite part, so here is the RECIP...

Wine Club Fri. Aug. 20, 2010 @ Shereen's place Theme: Summertime fresh foods Attendance: Julie, Jacquie, Andrea, Tayisa, Carmella and Reem The lovely evening started with some simple appetizers of old cheddar, brie, goat cheese with red pepper jelly, crackers and baguette along with two whites: 1) MONTECILLO BLANCO - LCBO 72058 $ 10.00 - Made in: Rioja, Spain By: Osborne (Vinhos De Portugal) Ltd. Description: Very pale lemon yellow; aromas of mineral, green apple, and pear; dry, light to medium-bodied, crisp acidity, fresh flavours of citrus and pear. Just about everyone liked this light and crisp white. It was very easy to drink. I picked this one because I know a few of us really love the Montecillo reds. 2) BLACK PRINCE WINERY RIESLING 2008 VINTAGES 164236 $18.95 - Made in: Ontario, Canada By: Black Prince Winery Ltd. Description: A bracingly fresh Riesling with aromas of pear, lime and mineral. Dry, racy and crisp, this is an excellent palate-refresher between courses espec...
