Notes from the LCBO: Deep straw colour; citrus, melon fruit, anise and flinty aromas and flavours with hints of vanilla and nuts; cry, medium bodied with crisp and clean acidity. Serve with: Grilled chicken, shrimp satays or pork dishes.


Wine #2:d’Arenberg The Last Ditch Viognier

Region: Adelaide, South Australia

Vintage: 2006
Price: $19.95

Notes from the LCBO: Distinctive and quite weighty varietal mouthfeel, but not heavy, oily or phenolic; moderate alcohol is counterbalanced by barrel ferment and 9 months in oak. Drink [until] 2009. Score - 90. (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, March 2007)


Wine #3: Calatrasi Accademia del Sole Viognier

Region: Sicilly, Italy

Vintage: 2006
Price: $13.95

Description from the LCBO: From sunny Sicily comes the northern Rhône's great white wine, Viognier. Loaded with peach, apricot and pear aromas and flavours, this dry, fruity wine would be a great match for mildly spicy shrimp dishes.


Wine #4: the Little Penguin Chardonnay

Region: South Eastern Australia

Vintage: 2007

Notes from the LCBO: Light yellow colour; shy nose of light wood, pear, melon and vanilla with notes of banana and pineapple; dry, medium bodied, with a creamy palate and light tropical fruit flavours and notes of apple and citrus. Serve with: Lemon chicken, as a party sipper.

  • It pairs well with spicy Asian and Indian food
